Conventional vs Energy-Efficient Homes in Northern Thailand

Conventional vs Energy-Efficient Homes in Northern Thailand

30 September 2026

The difference is in design and specification

  • Orientation and shading: position the house, eaves and openings for breeze and reduced heat gain.
  • Building envelope: roof and wall insulation, and glazing suited to Chiang Mai sun.
  • Ventilation: vents and air circulation inside the home.
  • Equipment: choose air-conditioners and appliances with high-efficiency labels (labels apply to the products).
  • Solar readiness: prepare roof structure and conduit if the owner wants to install solar later.

Under Greenery's project specification, SCG low-carbon materials, products carrying the Green Label, and Energy Label No. 5 equipment are used as listed in the contract. Actual electricity use and savings depend on the design, orientation and how the home is used; no figures can be guaranteed in advance.

Two houses with similar floor areas can feel very different in the afternoon. Orientation, shade, roof and wall build-up, window placement and cooling-system planning matter more than a single product labelled green.
